About the Author
Rosalinda T. Lagua, M.P.S., M.N.S., R.D., served as Senior Nutrition Services consultant in the New York State Department of Health for over twenty years. Other positions she held were as Director of Nutritional Services at University Hospital of the State University of New York (SUNY), Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY, and Chief Therapeutic Dietitian at Highland View Genesee Hospital, Cleveland, OH Rochester, NY.

Virginia S. Claudio, Ph.D., M.N.S., and R.D., is a Consultant in dietetics and nutrition in Las Vegas, NV. She previously taught nutrition, dietetics, food science, foodservice management, and related courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels for twenty years, as well as working as a clinical dietitian for over fifteen years.

The book has almost 100 pages missing

I contacted Amazon.com to let them know that this book (the 4th edition) has almost 100 missing pages (all the appendixes). The book was replaced by another one with the same number of missing pages. I tried to contact the publisher (Wiley-Blackwell), and they make you enter your life story just to email them. The book presents great information, but unfortunately, it is a rip-off because the most important information is missing. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! RIP-OFF ALERT!

This is the most wonderful reference book for nutrition. It was extremely helpful as I studied for the RD exam which I just passed yesterday!!! (yea!) I wish I'd found it at the beginning of my internship or during my didactic coursework, but it probably would have made everything way too easy. I highly recommend it for any dietetics student or dietetic intern.... Make your internship homework easy with this book!

This is an extremely good book for beginners or those revising stats. The author takes the reader very gradually through the material, giving tips on how to remember the important points as he goes.

The material is not advanced, only the basics are covered, but they are covered extremely well.

I can honestly say that my confusion about several topics in stats (especially hypothesis testing) is gone after reading the book.

The focus of Crime Prevention in Latin America and the Caribben is to identify policy interventions that, whether by design or indirect effect, have been shown to affect antisocial behavior early in life and patterns of criminal offending in youth and adults. Particular attention is devoted to recent studies that rigorously establish a causal link between the interventions in question and outcomes.

This publication adopts a lifecycle perspective and argues that as individuals progress through different stages of the lifecycle, not only do different sets of risk factors arise and take more prominence, but their interactions and interdependencies shape human behavior. These interactions and the relative importance of different sets of risk factors identify relevant margins that can effectively be targeted by prevention policies, not only early in life, but throughout the lifecycle. Indeed prevention can never start too early, nor start too late, nor be too comprehensive. The success or failure of a violence strategy may rest on the ability to implement an integrated set of policies that can exploit these interdependencies, so that the ultimate outcome in terms of crime reduction may be larger than the sum of the individual policy outcomes.

Five rose flour cookbook

Riveting Tale of Survival

This gripping narrative is tragic yet inspiring. In October of 1972 a plane carrying a rugby team from Uruguay vanished high over the snow-covered Andes Mountains of South America. The plane crashed and landed in deep mountain snow; amazingly over two-thirds of those aboard survived. But some were badly injured, and all were trapped in frozen desolation without food, supplies or radio communication. Surviving required camaraderie, innovation, luck, and (unavoidably) cannibalism of the dead. Nando Parrado tells the group's story while also describing his own hopes, despair, and determination to return to his father. He makes readers feel like we are there huddling together for warmth in the broken fuselage, hoping to live another day. After two months, with the weather warming and the dwindling survivors growing weaker, Nando and Roberto Canessa scaled and descended one of the Andes' highest peaks, risking death with every step. Then they hiked several more days, growing perilously weaker before meeting cattle men in the highlands of Chile. The rescue made headlines worldwide - as a boy I heard via radio, and a best-seller (ALIVE) soon followed (later put to film). Nando penned this more concise, personal narrative in 2006; like ALIVE it's a riveting best-seller.

Now a world-famous speaker, Nando reminds us that this was no adventure, but a brutal, heart-breaking struggle against harsh mountain elements that claimed 29 lives (including his mother and sister). But Nando also inspires by describing how teamwork, determination and love are building blocks of life.

The story itself is great but the seller poste a picture of a black hard cover book of Miracle in the Andes and instead what I got was a hard cover book consisting of 4 different stories (Readers Digest Select Editions), 3 of which I don't care to have. I didn't want a collection of stories from Readers Digest. Doesn't exactly add to my book collection the way I hoped.

About the Author

Everyone from Juan Tamariz to Richard Osterlind has a card memory system. But whereas Tamariz teaches an arduous rote learning technique through sing-song and Osterlind prefers stacked decks that aren't truly memorized, in this book I am offering you a completely organic method of quickly, easily and elegantly memorizing each and every card in a shuffled deck based entirely on the natural abilities of your mind.

In writing this book, my objective was to provide a card memorization technique that is easy to understand and adopt, flawless during the recall process and absolutely unique. Simple, Intuitive Approach

Bottom line: Easiest intro. to mnemonics I've ever seen. Includes Magnetic Memory Mondays Volume 1, which costs twice as much all on its own on Amazon.

I first heard of mnemonics through Joshua Foer's Moonwalking With Einstein. It was fun, but I gave up after a while. He recommends a Person/Action/Object system for remembering most things, which means that after you've got your memory palace all set up, you come up with a person, action, and object to associate with EVERY card in the deck. Now, he's a memory champion, and he set up his system so he could be a memory champion, but I just want to be a better Spades player. That's a lot of prep-work for someone who's never used mnemonics before, and I tried and failed to get it all done on three different occasions.

Metivier does away with the PAO. He stresses preparation, but all he wants you to prepare is a memory palace and a standard single-digit number-letter association key (Foer mentioned the key but didn't use it for cards). This is much more accessible, as I already know 52 locations in my house, car, and work building, and the number-letter key took me 15 minutes to memorize on my own.

What do I put in those locations? It involves the number-letter key, which he explains easily, but it boils down to something memorable to me. That's about it. Whatever stands out in my mind. Metivier suggests an action of some sort because movement tends to capture the imagination more than anything else, but it's up to me. I don't have a Person/Action/Object quota. I can let my imagination romp and move on.

Ultimately, I was hoping that memorizing 52 cards would help me build up to thousands of foreign vocabulary words, and Metivier gives a smooth transition. He says all you need is more locations, and it's a good idea to come up with a memory palace for each letter of the alphabet for the sake of keeping your efforts in order. Then he throws in the entire Volume 1 of his Magnetic Memory Mondays newsletter, which is twice as large as the book. Lots of tips.

Through years of practice, Metivier has streamlined an elegant, efficient mnemonic method, full of useful tweaks for different situations and goals. Most importantly, it's accessible to the beginner, and I'm finally getting my mnemonics practice going.

Interesting in several ways

I thought it might be fun to learn how to do this type of memory trick - but found the book interesting on a deeper level. The author's in-depth method of visualizing facts as physicial things was just one of parts of the book that made me think about how my memory actually works -- something I don't think many of us often stop to consider. There are sections here about how to memorize a complex poem or recite the alphabet backwards. Neither of those may be critical to your survival, but the very specific instructions on how to push your memory to achieve them, and why these types of mental exercises are very good for you, are quite fascinating. A surprisingly thought-provoking read.

Well, not exactly but this is a really interesting book by Anthony Metivier. It not only shares a system for memorizing a deck of cards but tons and tons of other helpful hints for improving memory.

I have bought other programs in the past for memory improvement but I put them on the shelf and forgot where they were. :-)

About the Author
Arthur E. Jongsma, Jr., PhD, is the Series Editor for the bestselling PracticePlanners®. Since 1971, he has provided professional mental health services to both inpatient and outpatient clients. He was the founder and Director of Psychological Consultants, a group private practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan, for 25 years. He is the author or co-author of over fifty books and conducts training workshops for mental health professionals around the world.

L. Mark Peterson, ACSW, is Program Manager for Bethany Christian Services’ Residential Treatment and Family Counseling programs in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Excellent book

As a school social worker this book has proven invaluable for me. Besides giving a great framework for working with children, many times I know what I'm doing but can not put it down in a few sentences that would fit insurance guidelines as well those of my agency. This book helped me put many of my treatment plans and goals on paper in a satisfactory manner.

I have since bought other books in the Practice Planner series and have not been disappointed.

I'm happy with this treatment planner. It is a good way to design your treatment plans for child therapy clients. It has a lot of evidence based interventions to chose from.

This is book has helped me significantly in treatment planning. If you are a professional who develops and modifies treatment plans often and would like to become more confident in your development and implementation of them, then this book is worth the price tag.
