Excellent Calendar With Great Photos And Nice Quality Paper Stock

This calendar, like last year's Taylor Swift calendar is really not an 18-month calendar but a 12-month calendar with a single page containing the first 6 months. I've included a quick snapshot of the pages here with the review but they don't do the images justice. The calendar is printed on nice, high-quality paper and the pictures are clear and vibrant. The photo portion of each page takes up a majority of the space, moving below the center fold line but the dates themselves still have plenty of space to see clearly and mark down your special dates. Definitely highly recommended for any Taylor Swift fans.

If you thought the Taylor Swift 2013 was the best calendar in the world, you were truly stunned to learn that she was able to top that with her stunning photos of the 2014 calendar. I've had this collection for almost a year now, and every time I reread it it gives me chills. Hewer's got a way with words that transcends talent, and bits and pieces from her poems get stuck in my head like lyrics- she's the kind of writer that you don't stop thinking about for a long, long time. I highly recommend buying this book.

Original printing of this book

The Art and Science of Personal Magnetism was copyrighted in 1930 by the Yogi Publication Society. I purchased this book over 40 years ago and I still have it. I was looking something up in the book when I decided to see if it was still in print, so I went to Amazon. In doing a preview, I noticed that chapter 21 (XXI) is missing from this edition. It is called "The Power of Controlling Others". While that title may seem ominous, it is mostly about taking charge of your own life and protecting you from negative influences.

It's just curious that this chapter was omitted, and I am wondering if it was mentioned in this edition and if it was noted that the chapter was deleted. Can someone tell me? The book I have is 238 pages, and the 21st chapter (the Power of COntrolling Others) begins on Page 192. The description of this book on Amazon does not list how many pages this book is, or did I miss it somewhere?

Great Book, but watch out for mistakes!

Bought the book for reference. It is a good book in terms of the content as it provides design examples and guidance based on the Eurocode. However, there are a lot of mistake and typo found in this edition of book. The reader should be cautious while reading it. In general, it is a useful reference for the design.

Not bad... not bad at all

A pure intro into VB 2012 with Windows 8 app XAML development in mind. With this book, I was able to catch up to speed VERY quickly, considering I haven't done much of any "serious" programming since the old VS6 days. The chapters are short, easy to read, easy to grasp, get right to the point, and provide small workable examples. I can now easily navigate around the IDE, write decent small apps on my own, and move on to more advanced books without tilting my head in question wondering what happened. I'm so thankful I wasn't persuaded into having to write another "Hello World" app as an introduction to "Writing Your First Application" ...followed by "See, wasn't that easy?" That kind of crap is a waste of time and paper in my opinion, but who am I? Anyway, thanks for keeping it real Michael Halvorson. The book is small... like just over 330 pages kind of small. So naturally, it doesn't dive too deeply into any of the nitty-gritty stuff. Just the basic need to know stuff, or in my case, a reference to compare how code was written years back to how it is now. I would have liked for it to have more details of data storage (reading/writing Application Data and binding perhaps), but does lightly touch on LINQ and XML files... implementing them in a functioning example app near the end of the book before going into the building and deployment of the Windows 8 store app.

To sum up, this book is VERY basic and does a great job bridging the gaps for old programmers stuck in their stubborn archaic ways, or for the true beginner wanting their first run at programming a Windows 8 app. I'm ready to jump into some advanced stuff now. Four stars for being just what I needed to get started. A bit more extensive... especially near the end, and I'd have easily tossed in the remaining star. Oh, I snagged the Kindle version first. Liking the first 1/4 of the ebook so much, I bought it in print. Prob didn't need to as I was having no issues viewing it on my tablet's reader. I just prefer reference-ish books in print (it's the whole looking stuff up & flipping around from front to back thing).

Essential for learning Windows 8 App Development

As an app developer, this book really shortened the learning curve for me. I found it particularly useful for building my core VB development skills, learning Windows 8 design principles, XAML markup, and what is required for app distribution via the Windows Store. While extremely technical, Halvorson treats me like I'm intelligent and teaches the concepts from the beginning - very helpful!! Get this book and you will build the skills you need for Visual Basic 2012 in the context of Windows 8 and Windows store programming. It's good to see that Halvorson continues to update his VB book. I have two older versions - and he knows his stuff!
