Too Pricey by $20

I do have one of these. I would love to order this for my 150 students. But in the area of $30 for 80 pages? Let's get real. It's a great source, but someone's not being realistic here. It isn't one of the authors, who has passed on. Nine or ten dollars would be fair, and a greater quantity of books sold would yield publisher and author a greater royalty.

A Must Have for the Grammar Geek

A slim volume but chock a block full of information. The first day I got it I answered a tricky quotation mark question for a fellow editor.. Major geek, I know.
I disagree with a previous reviewer who dinged the book for being too expensive to buy for her all her students. Review the content, please. Text books, and those with limited runs, will always be more expensive. We're so spoiled by being able to look anything up online for free that we forget authors have a right to make money from their intellectual property.

I loved this book because it taught everything there is to know about how to write a great effective college paper. This book has everything from punctuation to how form correct sentences. This book is truly amazing. I would recommend it to everyone I know.

I absolutely LOVED this comic! The only downside is, so far, only ONE issue (since september) has hit the shelves. Very disappointing because the character is awesome. Feminine version of the original Deadpool, if not more crazy. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

About the Author
Mother Frances Alice Monica Forbes, also known as F.A. Forbes, was born in 1869 into a Presbyterian family. She converted to Catholicism in 1900, and entered the Society of the Sacred Heart as a postulant when she was thirty-one. She was a strong-willed and intelligent woman, and used both these gifts to generously make the sacrifices that the Lord wished of her daily. F.A. Forbes authored a considerable amount of books based on the saints, including St. John Bosco: Friend of Youth, St. Monica, St. Catherine of Sienna, St. Benedict, and The Gripfast Series of English Readers. She died in 1936.

a marvelous short read

Having just really appreciated the story of Saints Monica and Augustine, this was an excellent short read on the mother/son story of two of heavens greatest saints. This delicate little book will make you appreciate and ponder on her inspiration.

This paperback tells of the infinite faith of Saint Monica and her unceasing cries and prayers to heaven for the redemption of the body and soul of her son, Augustine, whose youth was being spent in paganistic ways, much like his father, Patricius. But just as her prayers were in earnest for her son, likewise were they for her husband, who eventually became a Christian, being affected by the love, patience and purity of his wife's life and example.

Monica's being also became a profound influence on her mother-in-law, who made Monica's life miserable, along with Patricius. But in her elder years, she began to take notice of her spiritual daughter-in-law, who always showed her the utmost respect, despite the reproaches thrown against her.

And of course, the most touching and profound story of conversion due to a mother's plea, is that of Saint Augustine. He is considered by many to be one of the most gifted saints, due to his natural insights and blessings, that he initially fought against during his early years, but which brought him such gifts of witness and teaching, in his later years.

The conversion stories of her mother-in-law, her husband, and then most profoundly her son, Monica is a wonderful example for anyone struggling with a yearning and desire to bring their loved ones attention to Our Lord. At the same time, you realize that her journey of truth for her family, took years of patience and blind faith, and it is then that we once again understand, that everything is in God's time, and not ours. And for those who have the true understanding of His love for us, we become grateful servants as we wait for the Master's Word.

This would be a most treasured pocket-size book for those who admire the faith and perserverance of St. Monica, as well as something to give to a struggling wife or mother, in need of encouragement.

Addendum: Located in the second to the last section of this book is the description of, and information for, "The Confraternity of Christian Mothers" which is a society in which Christian mothers and wives "offer mutual prayers for husbands and children who have gone astray" as well as "frequent and regular prayers with other women in the same vocation, talks, discussions, frequency of the Sacraments, as well as the edifying examples of other members".

The last section offers the prayers to St. Monica (The Litany, Novena, Mother's Prayer for the Intercession of St. Augustine, and the Daily Prayer for the Children).

Inspiring Woman for All Women, Men and Children

I loved this book! Such an inspiring woman. She is the patron saint of mothers, wives and for lost children. ( Lost as in religiously lost ) I wish I had found her years sooner! If you have wayward children, troubled marriage or just need a good role model then read this book.

This is the only saint I've read about who tackles the problem of family members who have fallen away from the Catholic Church. Excellent book. Very enlightening.

As an elementary school teacher trying to shed light on all cultures and traditions, I absolutely loved this book and the way it introduced children to the far too unexplored Armenian culture. During our all-nations celebration, we took time to explore the special holiday traditions from cultures all around the world. This wonderful book perfectly depicts all of the interesting celebrations unique to the Armenian culture. My students and I all truly enjoyed this book. I would recommend it to anyone looking to introduce children to the unique and aspects of Armenian heritage.

About the Author
Grand Master Ho Sik Pak began his study of Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan at the age of 10 in Yong Mun, a small town in Kyung Ki province of South Korea. He was awarded Cho Dan at the age of 13 and continued his study there until 1977.

From 1977 to 1979, Grand Master Pak served in the Korean Army and taught combat and self-defense skills to his fellow servicemen. Following his discharge from the military, he was employed as an instructor of Tang Soo Do at the American Air Force Base in Kun San province, Jun Ra Buk Do, South Korea. There he taught those same techniques to U.S. Military Personnel until 1982.

In 1982, he was chosen as a member of the Korean Olympic Tang Soo Do team and traveled to the International Tang Soo Do Championship in Atlantic City, New Jersey, contributing to the team's victory. At this time, he decided to make the United States his permanent residence and moved to Southern California.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he has been featured in many martial arts motion pictures, such as Best of the Best. Most recently, he starred in the featured-length film, Hunt to Kill.

In 1997 and 1999 he released a full line of instructional videos in traditional Tang Soo Do and other training techniques.

A Must Have Addition To Any Tang Soo Do Collection

I enjoyed the Complete Tang Soo Do Manual by GM Ho Sik Pak very much, I thought the layout of the forms was very well done, I especially liked the intermediate photos to help see how the framing was done,and the interpretations for the applications of the forms was very nicely done as well, I can honestly recommend this book to anyone who practices Tang Soo Do

I have been using Peter G. Beidler's Writing Matters for fifteen years because I prefer it to all other how-to writing textbooks that cross my desk. Writing Matters is far more accessible to students than the typical composition text. Each succinct chapter is itself a persuasive essay that shows (simultaneously as it tells) how to focus and develop an argument, how to write clearly and concisely, and how to anticipate and "deal with" probable reader objections. Although Beidler's book is simple, direct, and sometimes humorous, it does not condescend. Clearly Beidler understands not only writing but also student writers--their fears and misconceptions and common complaints. What I like most about Writing Matters is that it really speaks to my students. Beidler's refreshing strategy of giving the rudiments of essay writing in twenty-six mini-essays which exemplify the very precepts he is advancing is particularly helpful. After all, some students learn better by precept, other by example. Writing Matters gives them simultaneously both precept and example. The 'Editing Matters' section comprising forty-seven rules (deftly keyed in a Quick Reference Guide at the end) is a wonderful bonus. And all of this at a price that students can easily afford.
