From School Library Journal
Grade 8 Up—War and genocide result from a brutal death match between Superman and Wonder Woman, in one of the most riveting "Wonder Woman" story lines in recent years. Under the mind control of the sadistic Maxwell Lord, Superman is sent on a violent path of destruction, attempting to kill not only Batman, but Wonder Woman as well. As this thrilling battle ensues, she learns that the only way to quell Superman is by permanently disarming Max Lord. In a shocking move, she does the unthinkable and snaps his neck, an event that is broadcast via satellite across the globe. Her actions create a profound rift between her and the rest of the patriarch's world as they question the sincerity of her mission as ambassador of peace. Shunned and rejected, she returns to Themyscira to defend her island home against an aggressive retaliation by the OMAC troops. After much bloodshed, the Amazons and their gods retreat to another realm, leaving Wonder Woman alone to face the consequences of her crime. Solid artwork complements Rucka's engrossing, action-filled story about heroism, ethics, and responsibility. This book is a must-read for all DC fans. However, episodes tie in directly with larger events taking place simultaneously in the DC Universe. Many convoluted, ancillary plot developments are fully expounded in two related collections, Superman: Sacrifice (2006) and The OMAC Project (2005, both DC Comics). While Wonder Woman can be read independently, it is recommended that libraries purchase the related books to avoid any confusion.—Philip Charles Crawford, Essex High School, Essex Junction, VT

Great End to Great Run

On the one hand this is a good book - on the other hand, it's tied into "The OMAC Project" and "Infinite Crisis" so you really need those to fully get what's going on here. Also, I recommend reading Rucka's entire run from the beginning Wonder Woman: Down to Earth (Wonder Woman (DC Comics Paperback)). It's also a little odd since it's not quite consistent with "Infinite Crisis" - in this book, the Purple Death Ray (or P.D.R) is the size of a rifle; in "Infinite Crisis" it's an enormous cannon. More importantly, in Mission's End Diana castigates the Amazons for creating the P.D.R for violating everything the Amazons stand for, (and it violates the whole purpose of her mission to Man's World.) In "Infinite Crisis" all of that is left out, and we get no indication that Diana had any problems with the P.D.R. Rucka's version of the story is more consistent with who Wonder Woman truly is, though I suppose we can give Infinite Crisis the excuse that they just didn't have space to flesh out Diana's story, plus Wonder Woman fans would get the _real_ story here in Mission's End anyway. After this volume, Diana will need to do some soul-searching, leading to her "absence" for a year: 52, Vol. 1

After this book, based on Amazon reviews and other Internet sources, I decided to skip the next few writers (Amazon's Attack looks particularly awful) and went straight to Gail Simone's Wonder Woman: The Circle.

A good end to Rucka's run!
By S. Penrose
Greg Rucka wraps up his amazing Wonder Woman run with a bunch of high notes. During this trade the overarching DC drama unfolds with the events of Infinite Crisis. Wonder Woman's actions have a huge effect on the world, specifically Paradise Island. Because of the huge event, there was less of Diana's supporting cast. Greg Rucka's love affair with Checkmate and OMAC is here and neither have been things I have ever cared much about. A huge drawback to me here was that bad lettering. The OMAC's word balloons were hard to read and Brother Eye's was worse. Seeing Diana's mission end the way it did was heartbreaking and beautifully conveyed by the entire art team. The last chapter, encompassing the friendship between Superman and Wonder Woman was perfect. Overall, a good read that could have been better.

Great Issue!
By Dora
Probably the 2nd most heart-wrenching WW paperback I've ever read (1st being Paradise Found with the scene of Hippolyta's death). Very realistic emotions flowed through this issue, very sad for the most part, but this *is* WW, so of course Rucka's run ends on a high note of hope!
